Some engineering problems don't come with a manual.

Maybe it's an idea you can't quite picture built, an unusual technical problem, an existing system that needs to change, an obsolete component, a prototype that isn't behaving, or something that needs to talk to something else. You don't need to know which engineering discipline or solution it needs before getting in touch.

Start with the problem, not the technology.

Different problems need different tools.

NRK Engineering brings together mechanical, electrical, electronic and software engineering to develop practical solutions. The right approach depends on the problem — and sometimes it takes several disciplines working together.

    Recreating or improving obsolete, unavailable or undocumented components and systems.

    Turning a design into something physical you can test, hold and refine.

    Connecting new components, electronics or systems into an existing vehicle or product.

    Checking that a solution actually works the way it's meant to, under real conditions.

    Automotive electronics, ECU integration, CAN bus systems and restomod development.

You don't need to work out which of these you need before getting in touch — that's part of the conversation.

There's a person behind the engineering.

NRK Engineering is an independent engineering consultancy and development workshop operated by Nicholas Kent.

My background has taken me across mechanical engineering, electronics, embedded software, testing, manufacturing and systems engineering. That breadth has become one of the most useful things I bring to a project — particularly when a problem doesn't fit neatly into one engineering discipline.

Experience provides a starting point. Curiosity takes you further.
